There are several types of risk assessment protocols. Are you focusing on
infrastructure, machinery or sponsored program liabilities (finance,
contract disputes, intellectual property, fraud/tort liability etc...)?

In any event, if your institution has purchased insurance as opposed to
being self insured you may want to contact your insurance broker for
assistance. Relatedly, you will want to take a look at your present
insurance contracts as a starting point.

I would recommend that you convene a committee to undertake such a task.

Subject: Re: [RESADM-L] Risk Assessment

I was on the committee when this was done at ODU. Our main focus was
documentation on the computers and savers. We developed plans
addressing what would happen if a local computer crashed, if the collge
network crashed, if the college backup system failed and the use of
passwords. We had just experienced an incident where a faculty member
died and had all the documents for NCATE (acrediting review) on his
computer on his personal drive - we did not have his password! The
other emphasis was the case of major disasters - if the building
burned down, the effects of major flooding and other disasters. How
long could we function without computers, files, etc. What would be
completely shut down if we lost power etc. Basically the issues all
came down to backup systems for computer files and other hard files,
records, how programs could be continued in the case of these losses.
Good luck!

Hello All:

My institution is undergoing a risk assessment process and I have been
asked to complete a matrix to assess major risks associated with
sponsored programs. Has anyone else gone through this at your
institution? I am particularly interested in input from smaller PUIs
and any feedback you can give would be great.

Thanks for your help!

Nicole
