Proposed Faculty Incentive Program Maureen McMahon 08 Oct 2004 14:25 EST

Hello All-
A proposal has been made by faculty at my University to create a program
that would provide faculty with an incentive to secure externally
sponsored research by providing salary compensation on an overload basis
to faculty who obtain grants. The way the proposed incentive works is that
faculty who secure a grant with academic salary recovery are not released
from normal duties and are placed on overload status. They may then claim
incentive pay on released state salary in an amount equal to 75% of the
released salary with the caveat that incentive pay during any given
semester may not exceed 20% of the faculty's state salary for that time
period.

I believe this type of arrangement is prohibited by A-21. What are your
thoughts? Thank you.
