We don't normally do so, but I can see the case where, in demonstrating
the actual funding being requested from a sponsor, you would develop a
total cost budget which is then reduced (a negative number) to show the
institution's contribution ( cost-share) leaving the balance as the
requested fundig from the sponsor.

This would not be the case for most federal sponsors, but might occur
in non-profit foundation proposals.

Is there a case where one enters a negative amount in a grant proposal
budget, or, are the numbers entered in the budget always positive
numbers?  If negative amounts are entered in a grant proposal budget,
could you please give me an example of what that budget line would be?
