Payment to Non-Resident Aliens Carmine Marino 15 Jun 2004 11:36 EST

Hi:
I would like to find out about your experiences in satisfying the minimum
IRS and Immigration requirements/forms when making payments (not expense
reimbursements) to non-resident aliens who may participate in conferences or
colloquiums for a short time (less than 9 days) and whatever additional
requirements/forms may be made by your individual institutions. For
example, what are the IRS forms which absolutely need to be filled out and
are there any exceptions? What kind of immigration information you're your
institutions immigration office really need? Do copies of their passport and
I-94/visa stamps satisfy our needs? Also, how much luck you've had in
saving a step or two by taking out the tax before making payment.

You may respond to me directly if you like.
Thanks,
Carmine
