Research Salary per Research SF metric Joe McGrath 10 Jun 2004 09:27 EST

Greetings:

As a measure of the effective use (and accuracy of reporting) of our
research space on campus, I am analyzing a rudimentary metric: Research
Salary cost per Research SF.
As would be expected, office-based research efforts (such as Computer
Science), with a smaller SF denominator, result
in salary/sf figures several times higher than lab-based sciences. More
important than the comparative values though, might be the salary/sf value
for a particular discipline compared to other institutions or an
inter-institutional median or average of some kind (i.e.- "Is the
institution's research salary expenditure per research SF in a particular
discipline consistent with that of peer institutions?").
I'd appreciate any feedback that subscribers might have.

Joseph McGrath
