 Job Description

Job Title:       Grant Writer
Department:  Office of the Dean, School of Health Related Professions
Reports To:   Associate Dean, Academic Affairs

Summary:
Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Academic Affairs, prepares
grant and contract proposals in response to federal, state and private
grant opportunities for the School of Health Related Professions ongoing
or special projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  include the following.  Other
duties may be assigned.

Identifies and researches potential funding sources from federal,
state, public and private foundations and private corporations.

Works with the Associate Dean and/or designated faculty members to
determine goals and objectives, scope, feasibility and funding needs for
the grant and contract proposals.

Researches grant and contract proposal requirements including content,
timing and documentation necessary for the proposals to be submitted to
funding agencies.

Writes, edits and proofreads grant and contract proposals including
narratives, related statistics, budget information and budget
justifications.

Understands and adheres to UMDNJ's compliance standards as they
appear in UMDNJ's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and
Conflict of Interest Policy.

Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and UMDNJ regulations,
laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are
modified.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must

Education and/or Experience: Doctorate degree preferred.  Master's
Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Communications or a
health related field plus six (6) years of related experience in a
health care, social service or educational institution.  Excellent
writing skills, strong interpersonal skills, comprehensive knowledge of
Federal, State and private grant procedures, contracts and regulations,
track records of successful grant funding and publications are
essential.  Skills in the use of personal computer in Microsoft Office,
including Word, spreadsheet and database applications are required.
Additional related experience may be substituted for the degree on a
year-for-year basis.
