Subject: [RESADM-L] Centralized vs. Decentralized Approval of Purchase
 Requisitions for Sponsored Projects

I am interested to know how universities handle purchase requisitions for
sponsored projects.

Are all purchase requisitions approved centrally ? No

Does central administration approve only purchase requisitions over a
certain threshold/dollar amount ? No

Does central administration approve certain purchase requisitions only (such
as only equipment and/or subcontracts) ? At our institution, the only items
that do not go through a centralized approved process are those listed on the
"item file". The items that are on the item file and allowed to go through are
mostly laboratory and patient care supplies.
