Re: Use of personal aircraft Herbert B. Chermside 25 Apr 2003 12:18 EST

Lots of interesting answers!

Suggest best is a clear understanding with the sponsor, and approval, in
writing, for this situation.

In regard to special equipment, need clear indication if this equipment
will be removed after completion of project.

Might look into the Conflict of Interest implications, too. It is probably
quite reasonable that there is no personal enrichment involved, but would
be nice to have some review committee's response as a CYA.

Many years ago, at another institution, we did get permission to use a
faculty member's "club owned" (group of three flyers) aircraft, at same
rate as local commercial rates. Don't remember paying any attention to
special insurance, but there were fewer lawyers in the world at that time!
(Friday sarcasm!) Then the department bought its own aircraft, because we
needed larger size and special equipment, including a very nice but very
large surplus aerial camera.

Good hunting, safe flying!
