Overloads on Federal Grants Jackie Givens 24 Apr 2003 13:20 EST

Hey there my friends . . . I don't know why I can't figure this out . . . could you please tell me (1) are overloads permitted on federal grants and (2) if not . . . how do you accommodate faculty effort at say 5% a semester for two semesters, where release time is not warranted. The specific circumstance that has raised this issue is a program where the budget ceiling is $100,000 over two years. In order to do the project . . . faculty are greatly reducing what they are asking the funding agency for . . . requesting funding for 5% effort when in reality they are spending a great deal more time on the project. The only option I can figure, if overloads are not permissible . . .is to put them on summer payroll. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated! Jackie
