Educational opportunities for departmental research administrators John Chinn 13 Mar 2003 16:21 EST

Dear Departmental Administrators:

SRA is offering their Departmental Administrators (DA-101) course.
This is a two-day Certification Course in Conjunction with the SRA NE
Section Annual Meeting being held at the Westin Providence, Providence,
Rhode Island on April 12-14, 2003

Departmental Administrators are a diverse group of individuals
representing universities, hospitals, private research centers and
government agencies with a broad spectrum of responsibilities. While
their work often entails areas outside of the field of research
administration, the overlap of responsibilities provides for enhanced
opportunities in assisting the researcher. The SRA training course will
address this diversity and the means to utilize its benefits in the
department environment. It will encompass regulation from multiple
sources that affect the administrator's day to day decision processes.

Program Highlights
· Panel Discussions (including veteran department administrators)
· Case Studies
· Group Studies
· Federal Circulars
· Compliance
· Intellectual Property
· Emphasis on Facilitation of Research

The two-day DA-101 certification course has been developed for
department administrators with two or less years of experience in the
profession and/or those who have more than two years experience but did
not yet receive formal training. A certificate of completion will be
awarded to those who finish the course.

Departmental Administrators Certificate of Completion

DA-101 and DA-201 courses will be offered at the NE Section meeting.

The DA-101 program is designed for departmental administrators at
universities, hospitals, private research centers and government
agencies who have two or less years of experience in the profession
and/or those who have experience but received little formal training.
The curriculum consists of a two day course that will be offered at the
NE Section Annual Meeting. Once completed, you will receive a DA-101
Certificate from SRA International indicating your successful completion
of the course. The DA101 Certificate will be a prerequisite for DA201.

The DA-201 program is designed for departmental administrators at
universities, hospitals, private research centers and government
agencies who have either attended DA-101 or have 3-5 years of experience
at the departmental level. The curriculum consists of the six sessions
listed below that will also be offered at the NE Section Meeting and SRA
International Annual Meeting, October 18-22, Pittsburgh, PA. You can
"mix and match" the sessions by taking some in Providence and others in
Pittsburgh or at a future SRA International Annual or Section meeting.
Once completed, you will be asked to fill out and submit the SRA DA-102
verification form which indicates which sessions you attended. The
session instructor of each session you attend must also sign the form in
order for it to be valid! Sign the bottom of the verification form and
either drop it off at the registration desk or mail it to: SRA, 1901
North Moore Street, Suite 1004, Arlington, VA 22209. SRA will verify
your attendance, make a copy of the form and return it to you. It is
important for you to maintain a copy of this form for your files. Upon
receipt and approval, you will also receive a DA-201 Certificate from
SRA International indicating your successful completion of the course.
The DA201 Certificate will be a prerequisite for DA301, an advanced
stand-alone workshop to be offered by SRA in the future.
