The University of the Virgin Islands seeks an energetic, experienced
individual to provide leadership in Pre- and Post-Award administration of
grants and contracts.  UVI is a fully accredited, Land Grant university
with campuses on the Eastern Caribbean islands of St. Thomas and St. Croix.
UVI is the only HBCU outside of the continental United States.  For more

The University administers between $10-15 million in grants and contracts
annually, with major funding from USDA, NSF, DHHS, Dpt. of Defense, Dpt. of
the Interior, and the VI Government.

Position:               Director of Sponsored Programs

Assignment:  Under the direction of the Provost,  the Director of Sponsored
Programs will supervise and coordinate pre-award and post-award activities
to assure compliance with all sponsoring agency regulations and guidelines
and University policies and procedures.  Specific responsibilities include:

Keep faculty and staff  regularly informed about relevant funding
opportunities and coordinate ongoing training and education on grant
administration.

Assist faculty and staff with proposal development as appropriate.

Coordinate internal review and approval of grant and contract applications.

Serve as a resource on grant and contract regulations, and interpret
requirements for principal investigators and senior management.

Facilitate the development and implementation of electronic grants
submission processes.
Provide leadership for improving  internal procedures and policies related
to Grant and Contract administration.

Maintain database for tracking  grant and proposal activity.

Work collaboratively to implement the University's Strategic Plan and other
related assignments.

Professional Qualifications & Requirements:

Bachelor Degree is required; a Masters and/or a Ph.D. is desirable.
At least  five years background and experience in grant and contract
administration.
Demonstrated knowledge of pre- and post-award processes and federal
regulations governing grant and contract administration including extensive
knowledge of OMB Circulars A-21 and A-110; and EDGAR.
Previous experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures
to ensure compliance in grant and contracting administration.
Previous supervisory experience in a university environment desired.
Experience with BANNER or an equivalent financial managment system, as well
as general database management and information technology.
Excellent oral, written skills, negotiating and interpersonal skills with
the ability to relate to a wide diversity of people.
Demonstrated executive leadership skills and ability and interest in mentoring.
Self-starter, service-oriented, results-oriented.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Be a consensus builder and a team player.

Compensation:  The University offers competitive salaries and an excellent
