BACKGROUND:
Old Dominion University Research Foundation provides fiscal and
administrative services supporting research, public service, and training
activities of Old Dominion University, a Research Intensive University,
including Colleges of Engineering and Technology, Sciences, Education, Arts
and Letters, Business and Public Administration, and Health Sciences, as
well as its interdisciplinary centers.   In Fiscal Year 2001, the Research
Foundation staff of 31 processed nearly $30 million in expenditures,
submitted proposals totaling over $189 million, accepted sponsored program
awards of  $40 million, and provided payroll services for an average of 500
employees appointed to projects.  The following position is a member of the
nine person postaward office, and will primarily work with investigators in
Old Dominion University College of Engineering and Technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will work in a team setting with other Grant and Contract
Administrators.  Primary responsibilities include providing guidance to
investigators regarding sponsored program management, establishing project
accounts, preparing and negotiating agreements, monitoring accounts,
approving expenditures and assuring high quality customer service by
maintaining effective communications.  Serves as liaison between faculty,
academic departments and research centers, campus administrative units, and
a wide variety of federal, state, local and private funding agencies, with
an emphasis on NASA, NSF and DoD funding.  Ensures financial and regulatory
compliance and maintains working knowledge of Research Foundation, federal,
and agency regulations, policies, procedures, forms and guidelines for the
conduct of research.  Participates in developing and implementing policies
and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated knowledge of federal regulations related to research
administration, including OMB A-21, OMB A-110, Federal Acquisition
Regulations and major federal funding agency guidelines. Knowledge of
university policies and procedures related to the conduct of research
preferred. Experience negotiating agreements and working with industry
preferred but not required.  Demonstrated ability to review and interpret
policies and procedures involving complex problems requiring substantial
independent judgment.  Interpersonal skills are required to work
effectively with agency personnel, investigators, University faculty and
administrators, and Research Foundation colleagues in situations involving
competing opinions, significant deadline pressure, and multiple competing
tasks.  Solid working knowledge of PC-based computing applications in the
networked computing environment, including Microsoft Office, email, and
financial database applications are essential.

SALARY:
Old Dominion University Research Foundation offers a competitive salary and

candidate who has exceptionally strong skills and background.
