Western Kentucky University’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is seeking applicants for
the position of Proposal Development Coordinator.  The search committee has just begun to
review resumes; however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

WKU is a comprehensive, state-assisted university with 13,000 undergraduates and 2,000
graduate students in the Potter College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Gordon
Ford College of Business; the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences; the Ogden
College of Science and Engineering, the Schools of Health and Human Services and
Journalism; the Graduate College; and the Community College.  Significant grant activities
occur in numerous academic and student support units, including head start, TRIO programs,
training and technical development, the Library, and others.  The OSP is a primary support
engine of the Western Kentucky University Research Foundation (WKURF), a university
connected non-profit organization.  The OSP manages $23,000,000 in awards and $45,000,000
in proposals annually, and has experienced substantial growth the past several years.
Bowling Green is located in South Central Kentucky 75 miles north of Nashville, 120 miles
south of Louisville, and 150 miles southwest of Lexington on Interstate 65, a primary
north-south artery.  Bowling Green and Warren County is a community of 100,000 that is
experiencing significant commercial development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and review completed proposals and budgets, provide electronic support, funding
sources, agency contacts, and guidelines.  Track faculty research profiles.  Assist with
maintaining the positive research culture on campus.  Administer the OSP travel fund.
Serve as GEAR-UP Liaison.  Present with staff in the grant workshop series for faculty,
staff, and students.  Acquaint grant developers with sponsors’ and University policies and
procedures.  Develop new funding sources and interact with the OSP Information Coordinator
to inform the grant community.  Attend professional meetings and disseminate results.
Coordinate with OSP staff members on budgets and pre- and post-award matters affecting
proposal development.  Compile and edit the OSP Newsletter.  Develop and review completed
proposals, provide electronic support, funding sources, agency contacts, and guidelines.
Design and present pre-award workshops for faculty, staff, and students.  Acquaint grant
developers with sponsors’ and University policies and procedures.  Develop new funding
sources and interact with the Information Coordinator to inform the grant community.
Monitor grant developments on the Internet and from direct mail.  Attend professional
meetings and disseminate results.  Coordinate with Grant Specialist on budgets and other
matters crossing from pre- to post-award.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2-5 years of sponsored programs administration
experience.  Familiarity with federal and private funding sources and compliance
regulations.  Electronic research administration: on-line funding opportunities databases,
NSF FastLane, Internet resources, and word processing software.  Strong interpersonal,
supervisory, presentation, writing and editing abilities.  Self-starter who can work on
several projects simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment; sense of humor
valuable asset.  Ability to work with the team including college, school, research
centers, and unit grants administrators, and contribute to team building.  Ability to
coordinate interdisciplinary teams and work with external partners Grant writing or
experience as a project director is preferred.
