Re: Faculty Companies Jon Hart 03 Aug 2001 09:01 EST

Deborah,
At Rockefeller, we have two criteria: (1) if human subjects are involved,
and (2) if no human subjects are involved. For (1) human subjects
involvement: If the person has a fiduciary position in the sponsoring
company, no, we don't allow them to be PI OR participate in the research
with regard to design, conduct, analysis or reporting/publication of
results. An equity owner may advise as to the study design in an expert
capacity (but NOT as sole advisor), but may not be part of the conduct,
analysis or reporting/publication of results. If (2) no human subjects are
involved, an investigator in a fiduciary position or possessing equity in
the company would have to undergo review and approval in order to
participate in any portion of the research, on a case-by-case basis.
