MOBIS Numbers Martin, Steven Allen 29 Jun 2001 09:01 EST

Dear Colleagues:

One of our faculty members has been approached by USDA to provide mediation
services under a contract. However, she was told that they could not sole
source the contract and that our institution needed to apply for a MOBIS
number from the General Services Administration. By having a MOBIS number,
USDA can then award the contract directly to our institution, or so we are
told. MOBIS stands for Management, Organizational, and Business Improvement
Services.

We are currently wading through a lot of information to see if this is
appropriate for our institution but we are a bit concerned about the lack of
other intuitions of Higher-Ed having already registered. Currently, only
two other institutions are listed, the rest are mostly for profit consulting
firms. I would be extremely interested in any information from someone who
has knowledge of this process or has been confronted by a similar request by
an agency.

Thanks,
Steve
