Vice Provost for Graduate Studies, Research and Outreach

Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Vice Provost for
Graduate Studies, Research and Outreach at the University of Rhode Island.

Position Description

The successful candidate will assume the leadership of the executive office of
Graduate Studies, Research and Outreach at the University of Rhode Island,
which includes overseeing all aspects of the University’s graduate programs,
serving as the chief research administrator of the University, and serving as
an advocate for the University’s outreach activities.  The Vice Provost is
charged with providing vision and strategic planning necessary to develop and
enhance the quality and visibility of the University’s graduate, research and
outreach programs.  This includes creating an atmosphere supportive of the
research, scholarly/creative and outreach activities of faculty and staff. The
Vice Provost reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
and is a member of the Council of Deans.

Graduate Studies, Research and Outreach

The University of Rhode Island is committed to maintaining and building strong

a research institution.  In keeping with this commitment, the University is

The University has a strong tradition of research and outreach in areas that

Qualifications

The successful candidate shall possess: 1) an earned Doctorate with a
demonstrated, accomplished record of teaching, research, and scholarly
achievement appropriate for university professorial status; 2) experience with
extramural funding; 3) outstanding communication skills and proven leadership
ability; 4) successful administrative and fiscal management experience at the
university level; 5) demonstrated commitment to graduate education; 6) strong
interpersonal skills; ability to organize, coordinate, and supervise support
staff; 7) a commitment to the University’s multiple missions of teaching,
research, service and outreach; and 8) demonstrated commitment to enhancing
diversity and equal opportunity for minorities and women.

Institution and Setting

The University of Rhode Island is a land grant, sea-grant and urban grant
institution enrolling approximately 13,700 undergraduate and graduate students
with a full-time faculty of 620. The University offers bachelor’s degrees in
112 fields, master’s and advanced professional degrees in 51 fields, and
doctoral degrees in 32 fields. The main campus is located in the charming
country town of Kingston, near the ocean, and in close proximity to Boston and
New York.  The University has a number of nationally acclaimed programs, a
Division 1 athletic program and focus programs in the areas of marine and
environmental studies; health promotion; children, families and communities;
enterprise and advanced technology; and the liberal arts.  The University is
the principal public research institution in the State of Rhode Island and
